Sleeping in Ostuni immersed in the authenticity of Apulia? In the Pagliaio suite is possible! Apulia, famous for its rural architecture, boasts many types of structures: not only the famous trulli, but also lamie and pajare, typically built with dry stone and a barrel vaulted roof, made of tuff stone. The lamie are chronologically successive to the trulli, therefore they have a more modern style from the construction point of view. Làmia means, therefore, “country house with barrel vault”, peculiarity that distinguishes it from the trullo. This particular and charming structure is located in front of the Casale suite: it is a small làmia from the nineteenth century, also called porcilaia, which has inside a large fireplace for kitchen use, used during the summer season to prepare meals to be served in trulli, mainly legumes grown in their own garden, potatoes, peppers. This area was also used to store animal feed: sheep, goats, rabbits, chicks, chickens and, for a period, also pigs, from which it derives its name.
This double suite consists of bedroom with fireplace and desk, stone bathroom with bathtub and shower. To its extension of about 20 m² is added an external pertinence furnished with sofa, coffee table and outdoor shower. The room is detached from the rest of the building: ideal for sleeping in Ostuni and breathing the relaxing and reserved atmosphere typical of this area of Apulia.
